How does custom pricing work?
Custom pricing lets you give one customer automatic discounts on a whole category (such as All Services) or on a single item. Open the customer's profile, click Edit Contact, go to the Custom Pricing tab, and add a percentage or dollar discount. The discount is applied automatically when you add those items to an estimate or invoice for that customer.
Types of rules
| Rule | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Category discount | Applies to every item in a category for this customer. The categories are All Parts, All Services and All Equipment. Can be a percentage or a dollar amount. | 30% off all items in All Services. |
| Item discount | Applies to one item (a service, part or equipment) for this customer. Can be a percentage or a dollar amount. | $5 off one service item. |
Rules apply only to the customer you set them on. Other customers' prices don't change.
Open the Custom Pricing tab
-
Go to Customers and open the customer's profile.
-
Click Edit Contact.
-
Click the Custom Pricing tab. The customer's default discount is shown here. It's a percentage discount for the whole estimate or invoice. To set it, enter a percentage in the discount column.
Watch: Opening the Custom Pricing tab from Edit Contact
The tab shows a table of rules. The customer's default discount is in the top row. For each rule, the table shows the SKU, Name and Description of the category or item, the Discount, the Unit Price and the Discounted Price. IndusTrack works out the Discounted Price from the Unit Price automatically.
There's no separate button for adding a rule. To add one, type the category or item name in the Type to search box at the bottom left of the table and select it. The buttons at the bottom of the tab are Make Inactive, Close and Save.
Add a category discount
- On the Custom Pricing tab, type the category in the Type to search box at the bottom left of the table, for example All Services, and select it.
- In the Discount column, choose % or $ and enter the amount, for example 30% or $10.
- Click Save.
When you create an estimate or invoice for this customer, every item you add from that category shows the discount automatically.
Add an item discount
- On the Custom Pricing tab, type the item in the Type to search box at the bottom left of the table and select it.
- In the Discount column, choose % or $ and enter the amount, for example 5% or $5.
- Click Save.
When you add that item to an estimate or invoice for this customer, it shows the discount automatically. You can add rules for several items, each with its own discount.
Combine a category discount with an item discount
You can set a discount for a whole category and a different discount for one item in it. The item discount wins for that item.
Example:
-
Add a category discount of 10% on All Services.
-
Add an item discount of $30 on "Service A".
-
On an estimate or invoice for this customer, "Service A" gets $30 off. Any other service item gets 10% off.
Watch: A 10% discount on all services with a $30 discount on one service
Remove a rule
-
On the Custom Pricing tab, click the three dots next to the rule.
-
Select Delete.

New invoices no longer get that discount. Existing invoices don't change.
Common questions
Do the discounts show on estimates?
Yes. Custom pricing is applied automatically to both estimates and invoices you create for this customer.
I typed my own discount on an estimate. Will custom pricing overwrite it when I convert it to an invoice?
No. A discount you enter by hand on an estimate stays when the estimate is converted to an invoice, even if the item also has a custom pricing rule.
I changed a rule before converting an estimate. Which discount does the invoice use?
The updated one. If you change item or category discounts before converting, the invoice uses the new discounts.
Does changing or deleting a rule affect invoices I already created?
No. Changes apply only to new invoices.
Does a discount on inventory items depend on the warehouse?
No. A category discount applies to the item whichever warehouse you pick it from.
Can I set a special price instead of a discount?
No. Custom pricing only sets discounts.
Who can see and edit custom pricing?
Only office users can see and edit the Custom Pricing tab.
